The cays of the Exumas offer an amazing snorkeling and diving experience. Snorkel the famous Octopus Garden reef at Horseshoe Bay or dive the 3.5-billion-year-old stromatolite reefs on the east coast of Highbourne Cay.

Animal lovers can swim with nurse sharks at Compass Cay or feed the iguanas at Allen Cays. Next day you will encounter local social media celebrities, pigs at Big Major Cay.

During your sailing vacation we will visit spectacular white Sand Bars that disappear overnight because of ever-changing tides. Undoubtedly, you will  be amazed by exotic marine life and seclusion of the islands. The water there is so blue you will think you are imagining things.

Other highlights of your Exuma private yacht charter are Staniel Cay, where you’ll find the beautiful grotto, as seen in the James Bond movie Thunderball. Lastly, we will anchor next to the sunken plane of Pablo Escobar’s associate, called “Drug Plane” at Norman’s Cay.

Itinerary

Day 1Palm Cay Marina

Arrive at Nassau and head to Palm Cay Marina to settle in your beautiful catamaran. Marina has five-star facilities and beautiful beach. Let the journey begin!

Day 2Allen's Cay, Highbourne Cay

Set sails across the Yellow Banks into the stunning Exuma waters. Anchor at Allen’s Cay in the Northern Exuma Islands. The cay is a natural habitat for thriving population of Native seabird and Rock iguanas.  You can feed these gentle creatures with grapes, however beware that they can jump!

Highbourne Cay is known for stromatolite reefs dating back to 3.5 billion years. Enjoy the breathtaking uninhabited beach or snorkel the impressive “Octopus Garden” reef at Horseshoe Bay. To finish the day on a perfect note, visit a fantastic open-air bar & restaurant with stunning views of the surrounding area and the most beautiful sunsets.

Suggested activities: Photo shoot with Northern Bahamian Rock Iguanas; Bird watching; Snorkeling at “Octopus Garden” reef.

Day 3Jeep Reef, Warderick Wells Cay

Jeep Reef has some of the healthiest coral formations you will see anywhere in the Bahamas. Besides, you can still see a real jeep, encrusted with coral, that was ‘placed’ on the reef years ago.

Warderick Wells Cay is an area of outstanding beauty with sand dunes, mangroves, and pristine beaches. We recommend to hike any part of the seven miles shore trails and visit the top of Boo Boo Hill. Lastly, leave your boat’s name on the piece of driftwood on top of Boo Boo Hill as an offering of Neptune. Another point of interest are blowholes that, according to local legends, are haunted.

After the leisurely walk around the island, relax on one of the beautiful beaches or snorkel the coral reefs. Undoubtedly, you can spot hawksbill turtles, vibrant fish and lemon sharks. Lastly, examine the while skeleton on Powerful beach.

Suggested activities: Snorkeling and hiking.

Day 4Staniel Cay

Staniel Cay is surrounded by beautifully calm shallow waters, which makes it a perfect anchorage. It is very common for Nurse sharks & huge Rays to visit the once the anchor is set.

Big Major Cay is our next stop. Don’t miss the opportunity to feed the popular Swimming Pigs on the Pig Beach. This is a fun activity and makes for some hilarious photo possibilities.

Have dinner at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club to experience the local cuisine. The charming marina is featured in popular music videos and has a cool and friendly vibe.

Suggested activities: Swimming with the nursing sharks, photoshoot with the Pigs.

Day 5 Thunderball Grotto, Little Farmer's Cay

Visit the Thunderball Grotto, where the James Bond movie “Thunderball” was filmed. Snorkel the Thunderball Grotto marine caves at low tides and marvel at the shafts of sunlight that illuminate the cavern. Enjoy exploring the colorful coral heads and abundant sea life at the site.

Little Farmer’s Cay is a quintessential perfect Bahamian Out Island. Interesting history fact – a freed female slave and her children were first settlers on the island. Her descendants have owned the island since. Today, it’s a friendly 60 people community that welcomes cruisers to an experience that feels like a step back in time. This tiny cay is quiet, charming, and dotted with attractive homes and lush vegetation.

Suggested activities: Snorkeling at Thunderball Grotto.

Day 6Compass Cay

Sail north to Compass Cay, then, anchor in the bay and take a short tender ride into Compass Cay Marina. The marina is a truly charming location and is world famous for its clear waters. Snorkel there or swim with its resident family of friendly Nurse Sharks. On the North coast you will find the famous natural whirlpool called “Rachel’s Bubble Bath”.

The island has 13 of the most pristine and beautiful beaches you will ever see. Collect seashells and other washed-up treasures. Explore the vast trail system of the island. Explore the Bat Cave and Low Tide Airport. Climb Compass Peak, which is the highest point on the island and provides breathtaking views of the Exumas Land and Sea Park.

We will visit spectacular white Sand Bar that disappear with high tide where you will undoubtedly  be amazed by exotic marine life, seclusion, and water so blue you will think you are imagining things.

Suggested activities: Swimming with Nursing sharks, snorkeling, bubble Bath, hiking & swimming.

Day 7Shroud Cay, Norman’s Cay

Continue our journey North to Norman’s Cay. First, we will stop to snorkel at the Sea Aquarium along the way. Then, we will anchor in Hawksbill Cay to enjoy the Sugar Sand beach.

Norman’s Cay was base for one of Pablo Escobar’s associates in 1980’s. One of his planes crashed into the ocean and remains there to this day. It is now a great snorkeling site where you can explore the sunken ruins and an array of colorful tropical fish and vibrant coral. Moreover, Norman’s Cay has beautiful long uncrowded beaches perfect for sunbathing and relaxing.

Lastly, visit “Twinkie Beach” for solitude and fantastic shelling, or take a short dinghy ride to the Norman’s Cay Beach Club Bar and Restaurant for a fun evening ashore.

Suggested activities: Snorkeling, sun bathing.

Day 8Wax Cay, Highbourne Cay

We will island hop today. The first stop is Wax Cay, which has amazing snorkeling spots. Short sailing away is Highbourne Cay, a private island with the most remarkable diving sites.

Next stop is Shroud Cay, where one of the highlights of your journey will be adventuring through mangrove rivers from one side of the island to the other. Shroud Cay is a naturalist playground, and you can choose to snorkel, paddleboard, kayak, or dinghy through this marine paradise.

Spend the night at Highbourne Cay Marina, where you can enjoy the variety of afternoon activities. First, enjoy the beach, then hike the island’s trails. Lastly, have dinner and marvel at the sunset at Marina’s restaurants overlooking the beautiful bay.

Suggested activities: Snorkeling, paddle boarding, beach, hiking.

Day 9 Paradise Island

Whether you want to bask on gorgeous powdery white beaches and swim in pristine turquoise waters or shop at luxury boutiques and local markets, a new adventure awaits you in Paradise. If you travel with children, we recommend to buy a day pass to famous Atlantis waterpark. Another option is to take a scenic stroll through Marina. The village has a variety of restaurants, retail outlets, local entertainment, and gift shops.

Day 10Back to Marina

Pack and check out. Soak in the Caribbean sun or take advantage of some last-minute shopping and dining.
